Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

I have been “written up” by a Resident Advisor. What happens now?

The Resident Advisor will transfer any handwritten information into the student conduct database in the form of a disciplinary report. That report is then reviewed by a Resident Director. Once the Resident Director has given the report approval, a case will be created and you will receive an email to schedule a meeting with a staff member.

I have received an email from someone about making an appointment or scheduling a hearing. What do I do?

Follow the directions in the email. Call the person who sent you the letter and schedule an appointment. Do not reply to the conduct@chapman.edu email – this email is used for one-way correspondence.

I was sanctioned to do something, how do I find that information?

You would have received an “Outcome” letter notifying you in writing of the findings in the case, as well as the sanctions. If you have lost your Outcome letter contact your Hearing Officer for the case or the Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students office 714/997-6721.

My student has received a letter about a hearing, what can I do?

As a family member of a student support is important. Support the student emotionally and mentally to comprehend the situation and prepare for the process. Family members should not contact Hearing Officers because of issues with privacy – no information will be released to a family member. You can also attend the hearing with the student, however remember this is the student’s issue to resolve.

How do I become part of the CPCB or RPCB?

Applications for the 2007-2008 academic year are available, the deadline is September 19, 2007. Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year will be available during Spring semester 2008.

What do I do if I want to appeal?

First, read the Student Conduct Code section on appeals.

Second, make an appointment with Dr. Cara D. Appel-Silbaugh (appelsil@chapman.edu), Assistant Dean of Students & Director of Student Conduct. The purpose of this appointment is to review your appeal intentions and brief it is prepared.

Third, submit your appeal to Dr. Appel-Silbaugh (appelsil@chapman.edu) within 5 business days of your Outcome letter. It will then be distributed to the appropriate appeal body.
