Administrative Hearings

Taken Directly from the Student Conduct Code, Appendix 3:

Administrative Hearing Bodies: Students, or designee, may serve as a conduct or appeals body. The Dean of Students may also appoint other Student Life professional staff to function individually or in conjunction with one another to serve as a conduct body in the absence of Peer Conduct Boards (e.g., during Summer, Interterm and other periods when members are unlikely to be available) or when a conduct matter is deemed inappropriate for peer review.

Administrative Hearing Body for Group Conduct: A conduct board comprised of Student Life professional staff and University faculty, staff, or students, as determined by the Dean of Students, charged to hear conduct matters involving the possibility of group responsibility. Conduct matters involving sports teams reporting to the Athletic Department are reviewed by the Athletic Department in conjunction with the Dean of Students. Conduct matters involving recreational organizations recognized by Student Life are heard by the Administrative Hearing Body for Group Conduct.

Administrative Hearings function in a similar manner to Peer Conduct Board hearings. Administrative Hearings are private in nature. Accused students are able to provide their account of the incident and discuss the facts of the incident. Students will be presented with charges and a finding will be made to determine responsibility for the charges based on the facts of the case. The Hearing Officer will then determine an appropriate sanction or sanctions for the act or acts of misconduct.

Accused students who are found responsible and sanctioned that have attended the Administrative Hearing are able to appeal the decision and/or sanction. See the Appeal section for more information on the Appeal process.

Accused students who are found responsible and sanctioned who have NOT attended the Administrative Hearing are NOT able to appeal the decision and/or sanction.
