Roxanne Greitz Miller, tenured Associate Professor of Education with a joint appointment to the Schmid College of Science, joined the faculty at Chapman University in 2005. Prior to her appointment as a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California (UC) Riverside in 1999, Dr. Miller was a secondary science teacher for ten years at both middle school and senior high levels in the public schools of Florida. She continues to hold current teaching credentials in biology, chemistry, middle grades, and gifted education in the states of Florida and California. Since coming to Chapman, the state and federal research grant projects in which Dr. Miller has been engaged as Principal or Co-Principal Investigator represent over $3 million in funding. In addition, during the past five years she has published numerous refereed articles, book chapters, and comprehensive historical abstracts and made over 35 refereed conference presentations. From 2005-2009, she served as Contributing Editor to the top practitioner journal for middle school science education (NSTA’s Science Scope), and is on the boards of review for additional research-based journals and professional associations. In 2008, Dr. Miller was honored with Chapman University's Valerie Scudder Award for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and research. Despite her research background and scholarly productivity, Dr. Miller considers herself first and foremost to be at teacher. As she emphasizes to her students, "teaching is not what you do; it is who you are." Dr. Miller’s current areas of teaching responsibility include courses in secondary instructional methods, science education, and education in American society.
