The following is the list of credentials Chapman University offers. *To earn one of these Credentials, you must complete one of the Chapman University Teacher Education Credential Programs.

Teaching Credentials
Multiple Subject Teaching Credential: This credential authorizes the holder to teach in any public school in grades K-12 that have the self-contained (teaching different subjects to the same students) classrooms setting such as those found at elementary school districts and including some adult education settings. Our 2042 program meets the rigorous needs of the state and prepares our students for their careers as elementary education school teachers.
Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with Bilingual Authorization: The multiple subject credential authorizes the holder to teach all subjects in a self-contained classroom, K-12, as well as in preschool and adult education. It is the credential sought by those who wish to teach elementary school (K-6). Candidates must complete the academic program for the Multiple Subject Credential, including the bilingual sections.
Single Subject Teaching Credential: This Preliminary Credential authorizes the holder to teach in any public school grades 7-12 or younger if they do not have a self-contained classroom. A Single Subject credential authorizes the holder to teach the broad subject matter on the major categories in schools including, Math, Science, History, English, and languages such as Spanish. Our 2042 program meets the rigorous needs of the state and prepares our students for their careers as secondary education school teachers.
Education Specialist Instruction Credentials (Preliminary) Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe: This credential authorizes the holder to teach the specialization listed on the documents in Special Day Classes, special schools, some hospital settings, nonpublic schools or agencies, etc. To meet the demand this credential has in the public school setting, this credential can be taken concurrently with others.
Education Specialist Instruction Credentials Level II Mild/Moderate Moderate/Severe: This credential is only sought after the completion of the Level I Specialist Credential. This is a 15 credit (five course) program requiring the completion of the Professional Induction Plan and Expertise Plan*.
Completion of the Level II credential requires teaching two full-time years in the disability area for which you are receiving your credential. The time of full-time teacher begins after the person receives their Level I credential. The entire Level II program must be completed within five years.
* The Expertise Plan is a University College requirement only.
Internship Credential Program – Education Specialist Instruction: This is a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) approved Internship program. This credential has the same legal status as the CCTC Preliminary Credential except that it is only valid in one school district or consortium. In the Internship Program a student becomes a paid employee of a school district and assumes full teaching and legal responsibilities for his/her classroom from the first day of the teaching assignment for at least one academic year. The student must be currently enrolled in the same subject matter credential program from which the Internship Credential will be issued.
Subject matter competency is required before becoming or obtaining an Internship Credential. Interns must have a contract before a credential can be issued. An intern credential is offered through a district to a student and confirmed by Chapman University. Ask your district for more information or go to the Internship Credential Information page.
Service Credentials
Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling: This credential authorizes the credential holder to serve as a school counselor in the public school setting K-12. Students with a previously earned master's degree in counseling or a related field may earn this credential without enrolling in the Master of Arts program. All other students must enroll in the Master of Arts program.
Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology: This credential authorizes the credential holder to serve as a school psychologist in the public school setting K-12.
