Kelly Berardini is an athletic trainer with a unique combination of clinical, administrative, and academic experiences. She was appointed as a full-time instructor in Chapman’s athletic training education program in 2007 after joining the ATEP family in 2005 as an adjunct faculty member teaching the Athletic Training Administration course.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in athletic training at Chapman University with a dance minor in 1991, Ms. Berardini was Head Athletic Trainer at Western High School in the city of Anaheim for three years. Following that, she created the comprehensive Athletic Training Program at Disneyland. In her six-year tenure as Head Athletic Trainer at the resort, she coordinated care for more than 2,500 Entertainment Division cast members and implemented services and programs that reduced the incidence of injuries in parade and stage show performers by over 50%.
Ms. Berardini completed her master’s degree in healthcare administration at Chapman, graduating summa cum laude in 2001. In 2002, she joined the administrative ranks at Anaheim Memorial Medical Center as Public Relations Manager. This position involved spearheading PR activities for the hospital, as well as various marketing, physician relations, and community benefit projects. Although a departure from clinical athletic training, this role provided her with a more global healthcare knowledge base that now serves as a unique asset to Chapman’s ATEP.
Ms. Berardini’s areas of expertise and research interests include musculoskeletal injuries of lower extremities, injury prevention and treatment for dancers, and healthcare delivery systems. She has collaborated with Chapman’s dance department faculty to design and implement a pre-participation physical examination for the university’s dance majors.
Currently serving as Chair of the Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association Public Relations Committee and as a member of the California Athletic Trainers’ Association Governmental Affairs Committee, Ms. Berardini has planned PR activities, authored and edited internal and external communications to support athletic training legislative efforts, and lobbied at the U.S. Capitol.
