Prior to entering journalism, Joanna earned her BA in English: Writing from the University of Redlands, MA in Screenwriting from the John Huston School of Film and Digital Media at the National University of Ireland Galway, and MFA in Creative Writing from Chapman University. While at Chapman, she freelanced as a game journalist and was a founding editor of Chapman's graduate literary journal, Anastamos.
Joanna is currently a reporter at Gizmodo, where she covers the digital divide, big tech lawsuits, computer hardware, and cloud gaming. She also teaches creative writing at the Orange County School of the Arts, focusing on game writing, interactive fiction, and technology as literature, among many other topics. She was previously a staff writer for PC Gamer and Maximum PC with a split focus between hardware and videogames.
