This Chapter includes information about Chapman’s current sustainability curriculum and areas for improvement. The majority of people surveyed found sustainability to be important to their lives, which makes Chapman a great candidate for new interdisciplinary sustainability courses.
While searching for sustainability course material, navigational challenges were noted. They key challenge was the inability to search for specific tags or keywords in the course description. The current People Soft system searches for class titles, versus what their content actually entails.
This screenshot shows a common search error when students attempt to search for keywords that should be found in course descriptions.
We could improve course searches by adding a Sustainability Course Catalog online. This will include all classes that mention environmentalism or sustainability at least once during the semester. Cal Poly’s sustainability course catalog serves as a great example of what Chapman could do in the future.
