» Skype for Business

Skype for Business is a campus-wide tool for video, chat, and screen sharing collaboration.   Create a phone or video-based conferences easily from Microsoft Outlook or Outlook on the Web (webmail).   Guests and external users may join meetings with a simple browser plugin or by dialing the conference phone number.

Need assistance joining a meeting?  Follow the instructions below depending on if you use a PC or MAC.

+ - Joining a Meeting (Windows)

  1. Click the meeting link in your calendar invitation.
  1. At the “How would you like to join your meeting?” prompt, click the Install and join with Skype Meetings App option if you do not have any Skype for Business software installed on your computer, or are unsure.

  1. (First time only - varies depending on browser) Click and run the download web plugin.

  1. After running the file, it should quickly install and exit. Next, click the Join the meeting button.

  1. (if prompted, varies by browser) Check the “Remember my choice” button, and click the Open Skype Meetings App button.

  1. Guests, enter your name and click Join. If you are a Chapman employee, Click “Sign in” and enter your credentials.
  1. At the Choose meeting audio screen, select Skype for Business if you have a webcam and/or microphone and speakers. Otherwise, click Phone – I will dial in and follow the instructions to call on your phone.  Click Connect.
  1. Click the Video icon, followed by Start video, to start your webcam video.

  1. Click the Sharing icon, followed by Share screen, to share your screen (if desired).

+ - Joining a Meeting (Mac)

  1. Click the meeting link in your calendar invitation.

  1. (First time only - varies depending on browser):

    In Safari – after the file is downloaded, click the Downloads folder, then click SkypeMeetingsApp.dmg.

    In Chrome – click SkypeMeetingsApp.dmg in the bottom left corner.

  1. Double-click the Skype icon to begin the plugin installation.

  1. (if prompted) Click Open at the warning about the download from the Internet.

  1. Close the “Skype Meetings App” installer window if still open, and return to the web page.
  1. Click the Join Meeting button.

  1. (if prompted) Click Allow when prompted to open the Skype Meetings App.

+ - Scheduling a Meeting (Outlook)

You must have the latest version of Microsoft Outlook and Skype for Business installed on your machine before following this procedure.  Contact the IS&T Service Desk for assistance with installing software.

  1. Navigate to your Calendar inside of Microsoft Outlook.
  1. On the top toolbar, click New Meeting.
  1. On the PC – Click Skype Meeting.
    On the Mac – Click Online Meeting, followed by Add Online Meeting.
  1. Create the calendar invite like normal, and invite external participants if desired. They will use the above procedures to connect with video, or simply use the phone number to dial into the conference bridge.

+ - Scheduling a Meeting (Outlook on the Web)

  1. Navigate and log into Exchange Email with your Chapman credentials.
  1. Click the waffle in the upper left corner, and select the Calendar.

  2. On the top toolbar, click New.
  1. On the meeting toolbar, click Skype meeting, followed by Add Skype meeting.
