Research Interests

Dr. Shirazi has been focused on the application of peptide-based nanoparticles in pharmaceutical sciences. He designed a new generation of cyclic peptide nanoaprticles for the delivery of anti-HIV drugs with low cellular uptake. Furthermore, a novel class of nano prodrugs has been reported by him showed that the antiproliferative activity of anticancer drugs such as doxorubicin can be enhanced for chemotherapy purposes. His research has also extends to understanding of how self-assembly process can help drug delivery system to encapsulate and transport drugs into cells. Dr. Shirazi has authored or coauthored more than 32 articles that appeared in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and presented his research at more than 30 national and international scientific meetings. He has received numerous awards including Graduate Research & Scholarship Excellence Award in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering (2013), University of Rhode Island and STEM Excellence in Doctoral Research (2014), University of Rhode Island
