Biography
Jonathan Pope Evans began his career singing and dancing in professional theatre, most notably in national tours of Will Roger’s Follies and Crazy For You He performed standup and improvisational comedy in Chicago, Illinois. Then, at age 24, he decided to make his way across the country to Hollywood, California, earning his MFA in Theatre and Film Directing at California Institute of the Arts. He then worked as director's assistant to acclaimed filmmaker Nina Menkes, and began directing theatre, commercials, indie films, and television promos. Most recently, he worked with Bejuba Entertainment and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto on his children's show The Fantastic Adventures of Mr. Lum. In 2001, he wrote the award-winning play And David Danced which was shown at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. And his new short, The Buried, just wrapped production and will begin to make its festival run this fall. He has worked with the Sundance Institute, ASK Theatre Projects, and REDCAT on his original theatre and film productions. He currently has two feature film projects in development and continues to workshop his children's television production in Canada. Jonathan has won awards for his acting, writing, and directing work. He has taught film and theatre at California Institute of the Arts, Concordia University, California State University Los Angeles, California State University, San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses, Riverside Community College, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and New York Film Academy at Universal Studios.
