Center for Global Law and Development

The Center for Global Law and Development is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and scholarly programs on a wide range of issues related to globalization, including international human rights, law and development, efforts to address poverty and inequality; international trade in goods, services, and investment capital; the movement of people, technology and ideas across borders; and the many implications for economic and social development around the world. The Center is ideally situated for such a mission. Chapman University is located in the heart of an increasingly diverse Orange County near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, together the largest seaport in the United States and largest gateway for trade with Asia, the Pacific Rim and Latin America. The Center provides a forum for discussion that draws upon the expertise of faculty members from the Chapman University School of Law and various other Chapman University schools and departments, and visiting scholars from prestigious institutions around the globe. The Center sponsors an annual symposium and an interdisciplinary lecture series.

In 2010, the Center for Global Law and Development created the Global Project for LGBTQ Rights and Feminism to bring leading scholars and policymakers to Chapman University to discuss a wide range of issues related to family law, marriage equality, discrimination based on sex and sexual orientation, international human rights, and the profound impact that gender and sexual orientation have on law and society. The Project also addresses the complex questions evoked by feminist theory and LGBTQ rights through an interdisciplinary approach, while providing an important forum for international dialogue about gender and sexual orientation.
