"Are We at War" Symposium Draws Global Experts
-Conference Brings Together Experts in Law, Ethics, the Military and Global Affairs to Examine the State of the World Post-9/11
Keynote Speakers Include Ambassador Rockwell A. Schnabel, Gen. Joseph P. Hoar (U.S. Marines, Ret.) and Dr. Majid Tehranian ORANGE, Calif. An impressive roster of legal, scholarly and military experts including General Joseph P. Hoar, former Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command; and Ambassador Rockwell A. Schnabel, former U.S. representative to the European Union will participate in Chapman Universitys Are We at War? Global Conflict and Insecurity Post-9/11 symposium on April 6-7, 2006. The two-day symposium will take place in Kennedy Hall on the Chapman campus in Orange, with luncheons and a banquet in Beckman Hall. The event is open to the public, with registration ranging from $40 for a half day to $200 for the full conference. There will also be a live webcast on the Chapman School of Laws website. The conference the second annual symposium of the Chapman University School of Laws Center for Global Trade and Development is presented in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Orange County and the Walter Schmid Center for International Business of the George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics at Chapman University. The interdisciplinary symposium will examine the question of whether the United States is really at war, and will challenge participants to think anew about global conflict and insecurities by questioning some of our basic premises and assumptions. What is war? Is it simply the absence of peace? What does war look like and what should it look like in an age of globalization that is marked by fragmented power, privatized resources and proliferating threats of terrorism and mass destruction?
