A visiting student is defined as one who will graduate from his or her home law school, but who wishes to enroll at Chapman Law for one or two semesters. Applications for visiting status are accepted only from students enrolled at an ABA-approved law school.

Applicants must be:

  • Currently enrolled, or on an approved leave of absence
  • Must be in good academic standing at their current law school
  • Must have completed, by the time of enrollment, the substantial equivalent of a typical first-year law curriculum at an ABA-approved law school.

To apply:

  • Check the "Visiting" box on your application and indicate for which semester you are applying.
  • Submit your Personal Statement explaining the reason(s) for wishing to visit at Chapman Law.
  • Submit an official transcript from your current Law School.
  • Request that the Registrar or Dean of Students at your current law school transmit directly to us a letter of good standing with class rank that reflects the results of all completed academic work.
  • The letter of good standing should also contain a statement from your home institution to the effect that Chapman credits will be accepted toward fulfillment of your degree requirements. Any other terms and conditions should also be specified.
  • Your current Registrar or Dean of Students must also submit a copy of your LSDAS report directly to Chapman Law.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required, at least one of which must be from a law professor who has taught you. These letters may be submitted directly from the recommender to Chapman Law.  We will accept a maximum of three letters of recommendation.

Deadlines

  • Fall admission – July 1 (This is the deadline for receipt of all required application materials.)
  • Spring admission – November 1 (This is the deadline for receipt of all required application materials )

Any decision to admit will be conditioned upon Chapman Law’s receipt of an updated transcript and letter of good standing reflecting the grades of the most recent semester of enrollment.
