The Vocal Music Program
There are many options for a student who wishes to major in music with an emphasis in voice at Chapman University. The Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Vocal Performance is an intensive performance degree which focuses on classical training for opera. Other degrees also offer the opportunity to study voice and related subjects, they are: BM in Music Education with a vocal emphasis; BA in Liberal Studies with a vocal emphasis; BA in music with a vocal emphasis. The Conservatory of Music is fortunate to have ten (10) accomplished voice teachers and three (3) coach/accompanists. These teachers are active performers in their own right and bring the knowledge and insight of performing to their students. Voice majors usually take a one-hour private voice lesson plus a one hour master class within their voice studio each week. Upper division majors also work one hour a week with a coach/accompanist. In addition to solo recitals, the Conservatory of Music also presents operas or opera scenes every year. Our voice majors have the opportunity to take acting and dance classes in the School of Communication Arts and perform in their theater and musical theater productions. Since we are an undergraduate program, our students have a wonderful opportunity to perform lead roles in many productions. Chapman graduates matriculate easily into prestigious graduate schools and apprentice programs. Many are outstanding teachers throughout the United States or are singing in major opera houses world-wide. |
