Bachelor of Arts in Music

redarrowrightBachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts in Music at Chapman University is designed to give music majors a good understanding of the major styles and trends of Western music from the Ancient Greek era to the present. Through a series of courses students gain an insight into music's historical and cultural contexts that will help them in their future musical careers. "Compendium of Western Music History" is a one-semester introduction followed by four courses that divide Western music into chronological style periods. "Music History and Literature I, II, III, and IV" cover, respectively, the music of: Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance; the Baroque and Classical periods; the Romantic era; and the Twentieth Century. Most music majors take three of the four advanced courses.  Music History I and II are taught by Dr. Graziano; III and IV by Dr. Holmes.

Music theory courses are taught by Dr. Shaun Naidoo, Dr. Jeffrey Holmes and Dr. Sean Heim (who also teaches music cultures).
