Housed in the 2nd Floor of Beckman Hall in the Argyros School of Business and Economics, the Janes Financial Center is equipped with 12 Bloomberg terminals to provide students up to the minute financial data. This state of the art facility was established in 2012 with major funding from Mr. David A. Janes and earnings of the Chapman University Student Managed Investment Fund.

The Mission of the Janes Financial Center (JFC) is to extend the goals of the Argyros School of Business and Economics through innovative classroom technologies, advanced financial analysis technology, and real-world applications. Learn more about the resources in the Janes Financial Center

+ - Janes Financial Center Residency Program

The Residency Program is a group of high level finance students dedicated to developing their practical skill set to bridge the gap between the classroom and a career in the finance industry. 

Students in the program are challenged to apply their financial knowledge in innovative ways by participating in consulting projects for major investment firms in Orange County and by competing in regional and international investment competitions held through the CFA Society Orange County and the CFA Institute. Residents are also given the opportunity to contribute to the Janes Financial Center publication, The Investment Review

Applications to become a part of the program open at the end of each the spring semester and are open to all students!

+ - Bloomberg Training Sessions

Throughout every semester, The Janes Financial Center hosts Bloomberg Training Sessions designed to teach beginners to Bloomberg how to use the terminals to enhance their Argyros School education. In these hour sessions, students learn basic navigation skills and become familiar with some of the most useful functions on Bloomberg. Each session is held in Beckman Hall, room 207.

+ - Bloomberg Certifications

Getting Bloomberg certified is easy and free for Chapman students, faculty and staff! Simply log on to the terminal, enter the command mnemonic at the top of the screen and begin. Why should I be Bloomberg certified? With a Bloomberg certification, you'll learn the language of finance, get Bloomberg on your resume, and discover the inner workings of the markets.

Bloomberg Market Concepts Certification

Bloomberg Market Concepts covers the basics of financial markets, helping students learn what moves markets and drives valuations. In addition, BMC helps students familiarize themselves with key benchmarks To obtain a Bloomberg Market Concepts Certification, enter BMC in the command line at the top of the screen and press <go>. BMC consists of four major sections: Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income, and Equities. Once each of the required videos have been viewed and their corresponding assessment tests have been completed with a passing score, Bloomberg will issue a certificate of completion.

+ - Wall Street Prep Training

Every semester, the Janes Financial Center, in conjunction with the Hoag Center for Real Estate and Finance, hosts Wall Street Prep, a comprehensive training course on financial and valuation modeling. This intensive 4-day seminar is led by former investment bankers with applied expertise in financial and valuation modeling methodologies, and bridges the gap between academics and the real world to equip students with the hands-on practical financial skills that they will need to excel during the recruiting process and on the job. Topic areas include: Financial Statement Modeling, Discounted Cash Flow Modeling, M&A Modeling, and LBO Modeling. Students receive a certification upon successful completion of the online-based test at the end of the course.

In addition to the four day training, Wall Street Prep offers a wide variety of online self study modules available to Chapman students at a 40% discount. The online modules range from beginner to advanced on topics including, but not limited to: Accounting Crash Course, Excel Crash Course, Analyzing Financial Reports, Advanced LBO Modeling, Oil and Gas Modeling and Real Estate Modeling. Lindsey Garn graduated from Chapman University in 2014 with dual degrees in Philosophy and Business Administration, with an emphasis in Finance. Now, as the Janes Financial Center Specialist, she is Chapman's resident Bloomberg expert. Questions about the center? Let us know!
