Guitar and Guitar Ensemble

The guitar program, under the direction of Jeffrey Cogan, M.A., has flourished at Chapman University since 1982.   Our newest instructor is Dr. David Cahueque.

Guitarists performing as soloists and in ensembles have opportunities to perform in concerts and classes at Chapman and on tour. The Chapman University Convervatory of Music Guitar Ensemble has just returned from a successful tour of New Mexico during which they performed in the cities of Corralles and Santa Fe.

Visiting artists and teachers have included Manuel Barrueco, Carlos Barbosa-Lima, The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Lily Afshar, The Gothenberg Combo, Thomas Viloteau, Jerome Ducharme, Goran Krivokapic, Jeremy Jouve, Dimitri Illarionov, Martha Masters, Lorenzo Micheli, Denis Azabagic, Judical Perroy, Fabio Zanon, Antigoni Goni, Margarita Escarpa, Kevin Gallager, Jason Vieaux, Alexei Zimakov, Joseph Hagedorn, Marc Teicholz, Olivier Chassain, and Ricardo Cobo.

This season we will welcome guitarists Enric Madriguera, Marcin Dylla, Karoline Kumst, and David Burgess.  They will all be featured in concerts and some will present master classes.

Students can study in a classroom setting or in individual lessons. In addition, guitar for Music Education majors is offered in group and individual lessons.  Students have numerous opportunities to perform for visiting master teachers and at recitals. The study of guitar at Chapman includes solo and ensemble literature.

Chapman students not majoring in music may also study the guitar.
