Mark Buchner '09

Mark Buchner has studied music his entire life, having begun piano lessons at age six. His primary instrument is the double bass, although he has also studied on electric bass guitar. He was principal bassist of the SCSBOA All-Southern Honor Orchestra two years in a row, and has received numerous awards for ensemble and solo work as a jazz bassist.

Mark was a volunteer in the worship band at St. John's Lutheran Church in Orange from 2003 through 2009, along with often performing as a guest at other local churches.

Mark plans to pursue a Doctorate of Musical Arts and become an educator while maintaining a professional performance career. During his time at Chapman his musical skills grew exceptionally, and the opportunity to perform in many different ensembles kept him continuously learning...one of the reasons he enjoyed his studies at Chapman.
