Henry Allen Music Performance – Classical Guitar Class of 2011
Henry Allen is a guitar performance major at the Chapman Conservatory of Music. Henry began to study classical guitar at age sixteen at Cibola High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He studied with Professors Darryl Dominguez and Joe Williams from the University of New Mexico. He is now at the Chapman University Conservatory of Music studying with Jeff Cogan. He recently toured with the Chapman Conservatory Guitar Ensemble to his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as nearby Santa Fe during the summer of 2008.
Daniel de Arakal Music Composition Music Performance – Classical Guitar Class of 2010
Daniel de Arakal is a Music Composition and Music Performance (Classical Guitar) double major in the Chapman University Conservatory of Music. Now a junior at Chapman, Daniel’s technical proficiency and musicianship have earned him a chair in the Conservatory of Music’s prestigious Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Professor Jeff Cogan. In Music Composition, Daniel is studying under Dr. Shaun Naidoo. Daniel is a fourth-generation Californian, and plans to earn his Masters and PhD in Music.
Patrick Shiroishi Music Performance – Classical Guitar Music Therapy Class of 2009
Patrick Shiroishi is a guitar performance and music therapy major at the Chapman University Conservatory of Music. Patrick has been studying the guitar with Jeff Cogan as well as performing in and around Southern California over the past three years. His repertoire includes works by Manuel Ponce, Francisco Tarrega, Antonio Lauro, and Yuquijiro Yocoh. Patrick is also studying the saxophone at the Chapman Conservatory with Professor Gary Matsuura.
Joe Zamudio Music Therapy Class of 2008
Joe Zamudio is a recent graduate of Chapman University Conservatory of Music, and has been studying guitar for four years. He recently performed his senior recital which included a number of guest artists from the Chapman University College of Performing Arts, and has performed works by Barrios, Dyens, Tarrega, and Bach. He also plays the piano and the saxophone and has studied with Dr. Janice Park and Professor Gary Matsuura at Chapman.
Jeff Cogan Associate Professor of Music
While still a student at California State University at Northridge, Jeffrey Cogan, M.A., was honored by being invited to perform for the great Spanish Maestro of the guitar, Andres Segovia.
Since then Mr. Cogan has performed around the USA and Europe. In 1998, Cogan was invited to Perigueux, France, to perform and teach at the Ecole Brittain with the acclaimed French guitarist Olivier Chassain. In 1999, Mr. Cogan performed works as diverse as the lute part of the St. John Passion with the William Hall Master Chorale and the contemporary jazz guitar in Fred Katz's Concerto for Buddy at the West Coast Jazz II festival in Newport Beach. California. During the spring and summer of 2004, Mr Cogan was invited to adjudicate different competitions in Austria and France. He was also a featured performer in the Fabritio Caroso guitar festival in Lanuvio, Italy. In the summer of 2005 Mr. Cogan performed a concert for the VIII Festival De Musica De Guitarra, "Villa de Aranda" in Aranda de Duero, Spain.
Jeff Cogan has directed the Guitar Foundation of America international guitar competition since 1987. During that time the competition has become one of the most prestigious events of its kind.
He is also the president of the Orange County Guitar Circle. Mr. Cogan's work in the Conservatory of Music at Chapman University has won praise for him and his students alike. He is Director of Guitar Studies and Music Technology as well as frequent performer in many of the Conservatory of Music concerts.
