Dr. Shafie's research and teaching interests include public policy, environmental politics, urban politics, and state politics. In 2010, he co-authored Rethinking California: Politics and Policy in the Golden State (Longman, 2nd ed.) and has published articles in American Behavioral Scientist, the Journal of Information Technology and Politics, and the Southeastern Political Review. His current research is a book manuscript, titled the Politics of Policy Initiatives in Presidential Transitions. Dr. Shafie is a core faculty member in the Environmental Science and Policy program and coordinator of the Environmental Studies minor.
