Services for Students with Disabilities

beckmanclassChapman University’s Center For Academic Success is responsible for providing support services to help students acquire skills essential to achieve academic and personal success. The CAS coordinates arrangements for accommodations and services for students with disabilities at Chapman.

The Services for Students With Disabilities Office is designed to help students who have average or above average potential for learning and who exhibit severe difficulties in at least one academic area.

According to the American With Disabilities Act (ADA), the term "individual with a disability" is defined with reference to impairments. The term applies to an individual who (1) has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the individual’s major life activities, (2) has a record of such an impairment, or (3) is regarded as having such an impairment.

Registration with the CAS is on a voluntary, self-identifying basis. However, services are only available after a student has registered and presents certified, current documentation of the disability from a medical or educational specialist. All information and documentation are confidential.
