Transfer Students

Spring 2012

Academic Advising is not required for new transfer students, but it is highly recommended.  Advisors can review your program evaluation to determine which courses were transferred, and how they are being applied to your degree.

The first step in preparing for your advising appointment/online advising is to print your program evaluation from Web Advisor.

Advising Options:
  • Online Advising: An online tutorial will be available for those students who are out of the local area, or who are comfortable receiving important information in an electronic environment.  The tutorial will cover all of the same information as a one-on-one appointment with a professional advisor.  Follow-up phone appointments with an advisor will be available for students who have additional questions (you may call 714-744-7959 to make a phone appointment).  The tutorial will be available for students starting December 5th

  • Appointment with an Academic Advisor: Students may schedule an individual appointment with a professional advisor.  Appointments are 30 minutes in length, dedicated to reviewing the student's program evaluation and suggested first-term courses.  The last 15 minutes of the session will be spent with a peer advisor who will assist the student with navigating WebAdvisor, Chapman's online course registration system.  Appointments will be available for new students starting December 6th.  To schedule an appointment, call the Academic Advising Center at 714-744-7959.

  • Appointment with a Faculty Advisor: Students also have the option of scheduling an appointment with a Faculty advisor in their major department, to discuss the specific requirements for the major, research or internship opportunities, or career goals.  Please note that Faculty availability is limited during the summer months.  To schedule an appointment with a Faculty advisor, students should call the department directly. Please visit the schools and colleges webpage to learn where to contact your department: www.chapman.edu/academics/schools.asp.

Important note for MUSIC AND THEATRE Majors: All transfer music and theatre students should meet with a Faculty advisor in the Music or Theatre Department before meeting with an advisor in the AAC.

Steps to Advising and Registration
  • Complete the math placement test if necessary.  All transfer students who did not complete a college level mathematics course (above intermediate algebra) prior to transfer will be required to complete the online math placement test.  You can check your status on your program evaluation through WebAdvisor.  If  you are required to take Math 98 or 99, and you do not enroll yourself in a course, you will be force-enrolled by the Office of the Chancellor.

  • Complete academic advising.  Appointments with professional advisors will be available starting December 6th.  Please allow at least 5 days from the date you place your enrollment deposit before making an appointment with an advisor.  This provides time for the Registrar's Office to update your program evaluation.  Online advising will be available starting December 5th.

  • Determine your assigned registration date.  You can view your assigned date and time by logging in to WebAdvisor, and clicking on "registration eligibility."  Registration dates are randomly assigned, and cannot be changed.  You can register anytime on or after your assigned date.  Registration for new students will start December 12th.

  • Review your program evaluation and sample 4-year plan.  You program evaluation is available through WebAdvisor.  If you have not met with an advisor, you can use the program evalution guide to assist you.

  • Build your preferred list in WebAdvisor.  Step by step instructions are available.  You may also want to utilize the registration worksheet to aid in your planning.

  • Register for courses.  All course registration is completed online through WebAdvisor, on or after your assigned registration date and time.
