Incoming Freshmen

Fall 2009

All incoming freshman have an advising requirement that must be fulfilled prior to course registration.  Advising information will be mailed to new students in mid-May, at which time students can call the Academic Advising Center at 714-744-7959 to schedule a one-on-one advising appointment, or RSVP for a group advising session.  Online advising will be available starting May 18.  For more information on important deadline dates and upcoming events, visit the New Student Website

Advising Options:
  1. Group Advising: Sessions will be available every Friday afternoon starting May 29 through July 24.  Each session will cover everything new students need to know before registering for courses, including information on the general education program, suggested first term courses, placement testing, and more.  All general information will be covered in a group setting (no more than 50 students) by a professional academic advisor.  Students will then be given the opportunity to break into smaller groups (by college) to meet with a peer advisor who will review the registration policies and procedures, and the advising resources available.  Parents are welcome to attend with their student (space permitting).  Space is limited, and students must RSVP to attend a session.  RSVP's will be taken up until the Monday of that week's session.
  2. Advising Appointment: Students may schedule an appointment with a professional advisor.  Appointments are one hour in length, with the first 45 minutes dedicated to reviewing the student's program evaluation and suggested first-term courses.  The last 15 minutes of the session will be spent with a peer advisor who will assist the student with navigating WebAdvisor, Chapman's online course registration system.  Appointments will be available for new students starting May 11.
  3. Online Advising: An online tutorial will be available for those students who are out of the local area, or who are comfortable receiving important information in an electronic environment.  The tutorial will cover all of the same information as both the group advising sessions and the one-on-one appointments.  Follow-up phone appointments with an advisor will be available for students who have additional questions.  The tutorial will be available for students starting May 18.
