What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
One of the biggest things I've learned in my time at Chapman is that being committed to staying true to who you are will take you far.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
I found my Oklahoma-self submerged in foreign palm trees, long boards, and tank tops not knowing where to look to find my kind of people. From the frighteningly consistent warm weather to the massive highways, I most definitely wasn't home. Yet, it has been both overwhelming and wonderfully challenging. Although a great number of Chapman students are from California, the school has been amazing in that I've befriended perspectives from Kuwait to Connecticut.

Describe Orientation in 5 words or less.
Beautifully overwhelming strangers welcoming genuinely.

Random fun fact about yourself.
I've never been to Europe, but I have been to Africa twice. These influential adventures to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia brought many curious memories such as: freestyle rhyming (not exactly my forte) with a Bostwanian who had never left his home country, won 1st place in an annual giraffe dung-spitting contest (pretty much as odd as it sounds), and rafted the Zambezi River (with a solid 20 minute safety briefing).

Peyton Collins

Major/Minor:

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
I've learned that by getting involved at Chapman, I have so many more memories to look back on, I've been able to learn from so many people, and I've experienced so much more than I could have ever imagined. Chapman has provided me with so many amazing opportunities, for which I am happy to have not turned down.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
What you put in is what you get out. The main thing I have learned at Chapman is that you can't expect a whole lot in life if you don't put in the effort up front. It applies to everything from making friends to how you perform in your classes. No one will do the work for you.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
After being at Chapman for one year so far, I have learned a lot about prioritizing my life. With so many activities combined with academics and a social life as well, it is easy to get caught up and overwhelmed with everything going on. Being at college has taught me how to plan out my day and make sure I get everything done. It also has taught me the value of relationships with others and making time for your friends is still important because these are relationships that could potentially last a lifetime.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
Everyone can make an impact on your life if you let them in.  People are amazing because there are no two who are the same, and we all have something to give each other.  The people who have come into my life over the past three years have had an unbelievable impact on me and I know that I will carry them with me for the rest of my life.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
Keep your perspective and surround yourself with open minded people. With how busy college life is, you'll do best if you have a strong network of friends to support you. "[College] moves pretty fast, if you don't stop to look around once in awhile, you could miss it"--Orientation is a great place to start building this network and set a positive tone for your next four years. So be open minded, inclusive, and have fun!

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
In my time at Chapman I have learned the importance of getting involved. It sounds cliche, but its true. At Colorado State I stayed in my room all the time and made no effort to get involved, and I had a miserable first two years. When I got to Chapman, I put in the effort to get involved and meet people and I have had the best year of my life so far.

Don't burn any bridges. Respect everyone and keep all your relationships as strong as possible. People in your classes and major are your teammates. They could possibly be the one who helps you get a job in the future so you want to make sure that you have made a good impression on everyone.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
I want to say that everything I have learned at Chapman so far has been important and life changing. Through the skills I need for my major and career after school, to networking and having relationships with professors and people in the industry. Chapman is like a big family, the friendships you make in your classes, Greek Life, or other clubs and organizations are genuine and will last well past my 4 years here. There isn't an experience I have loved or a lesson I haven't cherished. And as corney as all of this might sound, I promise you its true. I love Chapman and everything that goes along with it.

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
More important than any lesson in a history book or in the classroom, I've learned how vital it is to be open with those around you and to work in a team. You are about to meet so many unique and wonderful people, just make sure you are open to learning from the individuality of everyone you encounter.

Maddy Spellerberg

Major(s):
Television and Broadcast Journalism

Year:
Sophomore

What is something important that you have learned while at Chapman?
It might not have been something new that I learned but rather my memory was refreshed on something my 7th grade science teacher ALWAYS told our class, "you get out of it what you put into it." This is not only true with college life, but every aspect of one's life. If you open yourself up to new experiences, try new things, attend as many on and off campus events as you can, I guarantee your experience at Chapman will be just as wonderful (if not better) than my own! Enjoy this unique time in your life, your freshman year of college only happens once!
