2008-2009 Service Summary Department of Student & Campus Life Service Experiences 977 HOURS SERVED! Project Roots : Native habitat restoration and water quality assessment at Southern California wetlands and watersheds. Five trips were coordinated with 58 participants serving over 174 hours.Project G.R.O.W. (Growing and Reaching Out to Women): Service trips to support homeless and pregnant women at Casa Teresa. Eleven participants served over 132 hours. Tijuana Orphanage Trip: Service experience at the City of Angels Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico. 31 participants served over 434 hours. Community Partnership Series: A series of service-oriented programs focused on current social issues engaged 118 participants who devoted 133 hours to these experiences. Cesar Chavez Day: 24 participants served 72 hours assisting the Orange County Food Bank with boxing non-perishable food items for low-income families. Orange Senior Center: 8 participants served 32 hours coordinating a Thanksgiving Day Celebration for senior citizens. Giving Tree: Over 100 gifts were donated to Providence Community Services for children of low income families. Other Campus Groups Phi Alpha Theta participated in a canned food drive for the OC Food Bank and a beach clean-up for the "Save Our Beach Foundation." |
