C-Park FAST FACTS

  •  Like last year, all students, faculty and staff who bring a car to Chapman will purchase a parking permit. As before, faculty and staff can use one-time payment or payroll deduction to cover the cost of their permit.
  •  Resident students need not be concerned with the auction. You have your own permits and parking facilities.
  • If you want to park in the Argyros Lot (spring 2012), Villa Park Orchad (VPO) lot or secure a Reserved parking space, you will need to bid in the auction. This goes for commuter students, faculty and staff. If you don't need to park in the Argyros Lot, VPO lot or a reserved space, you don't need to enter an auction.
  •  For the Argyros Lot auction, your auction bid is the amount you are willing to pay above the annual parking permit fee. In other words, it’s a premium. If it’s only worth $50 more to you than the amount you already paid, then you would bid $50. If it’s more valuable to you, then you would bid more.
  •  The Argyros Lot permits are valid from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. At all other times, commuter, faculty, and staff permit holders will be able to park in the Argyros Lot.
  •  If you don't need to park in the Argyros Lot, you can pay the flat annual parking rate and park in the other structure and lots — depending on the type of permit you get.  You just won't be able to park in Argyros until after 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • The auction will be straightforward, so give it a try! Jump in early and bid what you think is a fair price to park in the Argyros Lot, VPO Lot or to get a Reserved space. For more auction info, see the tutorial.

Good for You — Good for Chapman —Good for the Community—Good for the Earth!

1. Convenient
Overall, there are more than enough parking spaces on campus to accommodate the students, faculty and staff members who need them. It's just that the most central parking lots and structures are the most desirable and sought out locations especially during peak class times in mid-day.  When so many car-driving members of the campus community are trolling for spaces at the same time, it’s frustrating for all. With C-Park, auctioning permits for the Argyros lot -- one of the most popular lots -- should help take some stress off the other popular parking areas.  This also gives us a chance to test out the auction process to see if it can work on a larger scale in the future.

2.  Neighborly
C-Park’s success will benefit our neighbors living here in the City of Orange. It should help reduce traffic a little around the campus caused by Chapman students, staff and faculty looking for a parking space.  As our Orange neighbors know, Chapman has intensified its community outreach efforts and responds to neighbors' suggestions and concerns. If you are a neighbor and have comments or suggestions about this new parking program, please contact us at C-Park@chapman.edu or through the Contact Page.

3. Cost-Effective
Providing and maintaining parking is already quite expensive for Chapman. Having a new parking structure would help, but the substantial cost of building that new structure would mean raising parking fees further for everyone, and no one likes that prospect. The C-Park plan offers a much more cost-effective way of approaching the current parking issues right now, MUCH more inexpensively!  Parking is not a money-making proposition, but a necessary and important service provided by the university in as cost-effective a manner as possible.

4. Earth-Friendly
For the first time, as part of the C-Park plan, Chapman will be offering incentives to those who carpool or take alternative mass transportation to campus. (Find about more about c-Park's Rideshare Incentives.) The C-Park plan should help cut down on gas usage and emissions from those who endlessly circle around in the most centralized parking facilities, waiting to nab a parking space!
