Edward Fosmire
Edward Fosmire has been involved in art education and museum education for fifteen years, first as an educator and administrator at the Irvine Fine Arts Center, then at the Orange County Museum of Art and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Ed is currently the Director of Development and Institutional Planning at the Long Beach Museum of Art.
Mr. Fosmire’s interest in art and museums began as a child after seeing the Los Angeles engagement of the King Tut exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He states, “those objects, lit like gems in darkened galleries, spoke to me from behind their Plexiglas barriers and it was then that I knew that I wanted to dig deeper into the world of art history.”
While attending university his interest was piqued by the exotic appeal of Asian forms and mythology. Then, after traveling in Asia, his interest in the cosmopolitan impact of Buddhist art was fully formed.
He completed his BA in art and MA in art history at California State University, Long Beach, working with Dr. Ingrid Aall, a scholar of Indian art. At Chapman, Ed teaches the Art of India, the Himalayas and Tibet as well as the Chinese and Japanese Art class.
