» Founders Day

March 10 and 11

Theme: Fear Not!

Founders Day is an annual event sponsored by the Office of Church Relations, connecting students, faculty and community members with an outstanding scholar in the area of religion (Founders Education Day) and a renewal and reunion event for Disciples of Christ and United Church of Christ people (Founders Day).

The scholar is Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon. Kinnamon has been a major leader and scholar of the ecumenical movement for decades. He is the immediate-past General Secretary of the National Council of Churches and has led the Consultation on Church Union and the World Council of Churches’ Commission on Faith and Order.

Kinnamon will present lectures on Friday, March 10, addressing the climate of fear that pervades American culture and how Christianity and all of the major world’s religions call us to resist the power of fear in our lives.  He will also facilitate a panel discussion with world faith leaders on Saturday, March 11.

The preacher is Frank A. Thomas, PhD. Thomas is the Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Th. Miller Professor of Homiletics and the Director of the Academy of Preaching and Celebration at Christian Theological Seminary.
