What can I expect from my internship employer?

Every company and every internship is unique. However, the primary objective of any internship employer is to create a beneficial learning environment for the student.

    Employers should provide:
    • situations promoting professional growth
    • hands-on, meaningful work to enhance academic learning

This may include involvement in staff meetings, client meetings, conference calls, client field visits, and participting in other workplace activities.

On the first day of your internship, your internship employer should introduce you to managers and co-workers, and orient you to the general philosophy and procedures of the organization. The employer should also review the rules and expectations to be followed.

By employing you as an intern, the employer is expected to complete and sign Section C of the ILAF (see Forms webpage), complete and return the Evaluation of Student Performance, and be available for phone consultations with your faculty internship advisor.
