Referring Students to the Career Development Center

Mission

The Career Development Center works with all Chapman University students to assist them with identifying, developing, and implementing their career goals through self-direction and personal responsibility. Students can access services by scheduling appointments, walking in, and using online services.

Scheduled Appointments

Most students can benefit from meeting with a staff member who can evaluate their needs and introduce them to relevant services. Common reasons students schedule appointments include:

  • Exploring, choosing or changing majors
  • Learning about jobs related to their major
  • Taking career assessments such as the Strong
  • Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
  • Preparing resumes and cover letters and getting them critiqued
  • Gaining interviewing skills through coaching, mock interviews, and feedback
  • Developing job search strategies
  • Finding out about internships
  • Learning how to find part-time and full-time jobs
  • Identifying and applying to graduate school

Appointment scheduling is centralized through the Career Development Center Department Assistant, who can be reached at (714) 997-6942. An appointment may also be made through our online service. Initial appointments are scheduled for 60 minutes to allow adequate time to explore the student’s needs. When making an appointment, students are asked about the nature of the appointment in order to match them with a staff person who can best assist them. 

Walk-In

Students do not need appointments for the following:
  • Browsing the career resource library; checking out books (3 book limit, 2 week check out)
  • Picking up handouts
  • Reviewing job and internship postings
  • Getting internship paperwork and turning in completed paperwork
  • Clarifying policies and procedures
