FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ORANGE, CA – The Chapman University softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with victories over Rhode Island College, 10-0, and Illinois College, 8-1, as part of its own Sun West Tournament at Hart Park on Monday afternoon. The Panthers have won 16 of their past 17 games and are averaging 7.5 runs per game this season. Junior shortstop Jill Jeranko collected her second four-hit game of the season, going 4-for-4 with her fifth home run in the Panthers’ 10-0 win over Rhode Island. Jeranko was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Sophomore Sandra Burns had a pair of hits and drove in three runs to support right-hander Jennifer Winford (5-1), who struck out 11 batters en route to her fourth shutout of the season. Versus Illinois College, Chapman (18-3) slugged three home runs – against the gusty Santa Ana winds – in the third inning on its way to a 8-1 victory. Burns, Ashlie Vohs and Catherine Hall (inside-the-park) each homered for the Panthers and junior Kim Sanders was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Chapman wins leader Marissa Becerra (6-1) scattered five hits and allowed just one run in the victory.
