Before you can discuss a building’s merits, you must consider the people who will call it home. In this case, it’s the committed students and faculty of the Schmid College of Science and Technology. Led by Dean Andrew Lyon, Ph.D., Schmid College is composed of a diverse population of physicists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, ecologists, and computer, data and food scientists. Though they pursue divergent scientific paths, they share a common curiosity and a drive for discovery.
The Center for Science and Technology was designed with collaboration in its very DNA. Spacious laboratories are grouped strategically by discipline, with students and faculty moving seamlessly between classroom and lab. The building’s three floors house laboratories dedicated to a wide variety of scientific endeavors.
Under Schmid College’s new Grand Challenges Initiative, interdisciplinary student teams will partner to tackle the most critical and immediate challenges we face in our world. Passionate Schmid faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and team members from diverse science backgrounds will synthesize unique approaches to a broad range of global problems, like renewable energy, food availability, and climate change.
