Services

As a current student or recent graduate of Chapman, there are a number of ways you can receive assistance on major & career exploration, resumes, cover letters, personal statements, graduate school applications, jobs & internships, networking, and interviewing. In the list below, you can find information about the support we offer on a daily and weekly basis.

+ - Quick Questions Career Coaching (Resource)

Quick Questions are walk-in hours during which time you can receive assistance from a Career Educator without a previously scheduled appointment. Quick Questions sessions are utilized for questions that will require no more than 15 minutes to review together. During your Quick Questions drop-in time, it will be assessed whether your questions may require a full, 30-minute scheduled appointment.

+ - Career Bar (Resource)

If you are seeking assistance with building your resume or creating a LinkedIn profile, Career Bar sessions may be perfect for you! These weekly, one-hour workshops cover all that you need to know to get started on creating and refining your professional profile both on and offline. Career Bar sessions are offered in the Fall and Spring during the hours listed below.

Self-assessments can help you explore your interests, skills, values, and preferences as they relate to choosing a major or career. Though these assessments are not foolproof and do not hold the absolute answers for the career you may like to pursue, they can be useful tools to help you understand your interests, skills, values, and preferences more clearly to make choices aligned with who you are. Explore the following self assessment options below.

+ - Mock Interviews

Mock interviews can be conducted with a career educator during a career counseling appointment. To obtain an appointment it is necessary to first visit the Career Development Center for a Quick Questions session. Mock Interview events are also available once per semester. At these events students have the opportunity to do mock interviews with 10-15 different employers from all over Southern California. Networking

+ - Target for Success Info Sessions (Event)

Target for Success is an event that focuses on teaching leadership and management skills. Presenters range from CEOs to Professional Speakers.

+ - Career Excursions (Event)

Career Excursions are off-campus day trips to professional destinations and corporations all over the Orange County and Los Angeles areas. These trips are designed to connect students and employers to forge relationships and expose students to the inner-workings of major companies and corporations.

+ - Insider Review (Event)

Insider Reviews take place on campus. Employers come to campus to connect with and educate students on their specific area of industry. 

+ - Live Stream (Event)

Connect with employers digitally. Live Stream gives students the opportunity to connect with employers across the nation. 

+ - Biz Cardz (Resource)

One of the best way to leave a lasting impression is by leaving the employer a business card. If you’re looking for a cost-effective method of creating business cards to network and job search, we have an excellent solution for you! The Biz Cardz program allows for students to create and obtain professional, customized business cards at a low, subsidized rate. You can get 100 cards for as little as $15.00.

+ - Internship Expo (Event)

The biggest internship event of the year. Connect with a room full of employers that are looking for Chapman student interns. 

+ - More Career Expo (Event)

The Career Development Center "Recruit" events allow students to connect with employers that come to campus specifically seeking Chapman students. Employers come from all industries and backgrounds and can give students insight on how to be successful in their career goals. + - The Portfolio Show (Event)

The Show is an event aimed at majors that require a portfolio of work. Employers from all over Southern California will critique students' portfolios and give input on how to succeed in each industry.

+ - Summit Career Institute (Program)

The Summit Internship Program consists of two components, the Summit Career Institute and the Summit Internship, which aim to prepare undergraduate and graduate students with a professional and career-focused foundation to make them better prepared and competitive in a rapidly evolving job and internship market. Through the Summit Internship Program, students will gain the knowledge and training needed to succeed in their professional endeavors and lifelong career development.

+ - Financial L.E.A.D - Literacy, Awareness, Education & Discipline (Program)

The Financial L.E.A.D (Literacy, Education, Awareness, and Discipline) program educates students on financial literacy and wellness. If you would like to learn how to manage and invest your money wisely, we invite you to join this workshop program!

+ - Playbook for Life/ Playbook for College (Program)

This 4-session program offered in the Fall and Spring empowers student athletes with the resources they need to transfer their skills from the court or field to the workplace. Join us to learn from former collegiate athletes and Chapman alumni about how they transferred their skills from the field or court to achieve success in the workplace!

Playbook for Life is designed for Junior & Senior students

+ - ATLAS (Program)

Are you having difficulty choosing a major? Are you having trouble figuring out what you want to do with your life? You are not alone!

This 5-session, zero-credit, semester program is designed to provide the opportunity to explore individual talents, strengths, and interests to expand on the process of career exploration and major selection. This course is offered to freshman and sophomore that are undeclared.  This program includes self-assessments, experiential exercises, and opportunities to participate in career-related activities. This course is offered once a semester.

As a result of participating in this course, students will be able to

  • Identify and describe personal strengths, talents and skills
  • Identify and describe a major(s) that interest you with corresponding career visions
  • Develop connections with peers also in the process of exploring career & major options
  • Develop social branding tools and apply them to student engagement opportunities
  • Define team-building strategies and practice them in peer groups
  • Formulate working plan to integrate individual talents/skills with academic/career interests

+ - PASSPORT (Program)

This 7-session, zero-credit, semester program is exclusively available to international students at all stages of their educational journey.  Whether you are an undergraduate, graduate, or beyond, PASSPORT can teach you the tools necessary to earning an internship or job in the U.S.  This course is offered once a semester.

 

As a result of participating in this course, students will be able to

  • Create a professional resume & cover letter appropriate for the western job market
  • Facilitate informational interviewing, and learn to network successfully
  • Identify and describe personal strengths, talents and skills to succeed in interviewing
  • Develop connections with peers who are also in the process of pursuing career goals
  • Develop social branding tools and apply them to LinkedIn and personal web sites
  • Formulate a working plan to integrate individual talents/skills with academic & career interest

+ - COMPASS (Program)

This 7-session, zero-credit, semester program is designed to facilitate the most successful transition for transfer students.  To connect the educational and life experiences gained prior to entering Chapman, students will engage with the skills sets and tools necessary to strive and grow professionally now that you are here. This course is offered to transfer students.  This course is offered once a semester.

 

As a result of participating in this course, students will be able to

  • Learn to “Think Chapman First” with resources on campus
  • Build community with peers who share the transfer experience
  • Develop social branding tools and apply them to LinkedIn and personal web sites
  • Create a professional resume & cover letter
  • Facilitate informational interviewing, and learn to network and balance time successfully
