Meet the Center for Undergraduate Excellence

 Julye Bidmead DIRECTOR: Dr. Julye Bidmead is the Director of the Center for Undergraduate Excellence, and an Associate Professor of Religious Studies in Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Science. She received a Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in Method and Theory of Religion. Prior to joining Chapman University in 2007, she held faculty positions at Miami University (OH), James Madison University, and California State University, Fresno. Dr. Bidmead teaches classes in Religious Studies, First Year Foundation (FFC), and the University Honors Program. She has won several teaching awards including the Valerie Scudder Award and Pedagogical Innovative Award. Dr. Bidmead's publications include The Akitu Festival: Religious Continuity and Royal Legitimation in Mesopotamia (Gorgias Press, 2014), Invest Your Humanity (Pickwick, 2016), and numerous articles on Near Eastern religion, ritual studies, and gender. Her most recent research project, Recovering Women's Rituals in the Ancient Near East (Equinox Press), explores women's religious roles and rites of passage in ancient Israel, Mesopotamia, and Canaan. Dr. Bidmead is currently the Education Director and field archaeologist on the Jezreel Expedition, where she spends her summers excavating the world of the ancient Israelites.

 

Lisa KendrickOPERATIONS MANAGER: Lisa Kendrick received her B.A. in Communications with an Emphasis in Film and Television Production from Chapman University in 1987. She worked briefly for PCTV in Placentia before entering the apparel industry. In 2005, Lisa received a Teaching Credential and taught fourth grade at St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Long Beach. She returned to the apparel industry until 2014, when she accepted her position with the Center for Undergraduate Excellence at Chapman University.

 

Jackie-HeadshotADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT: Jackie Cardwell has been with Chapman University for the last 8 years. She worked in University Services before accepting her position with the Center for Undergraduate Excellence.

 

 

 

Jessica BocinskiOFFICE ASSISTANT AND LEAD STUDENT SCHOLAR AMBASSADOR: Jessica Bocinski is a senior undergraduate student completing her B.A. in Art History and B.A. in Anthropology from Wilkinson College at Chapman University. She has participated in several C.U.E. programs including the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Scholarly Research and Creative Activity Grant, Undergraduate Research Day, and Student Scholar Ambassadors. Jessica also works for the the Art Collections Department as the Assistant Exhibition Coordinator.
