How to Apply for an Undergraduate Travel Grant

+ - Requirements

  • Applicants must be accepted to present research or creative project at a professional conference/event/film festival and be listed as the primary or co-presenter. 
  • All applicants must request funding from SGA and one other source prior to applying.
  • Applicants must be full-time undergraduate students at Chapman University, demonstrate a financial need for funding, and be in good academic standing with the University.
  • All students who receive a Travel Grant are required to present their work at Chapman University Student Scholar Symposium during the academic year in which they received their travel award.
  • All students who receive a travel grant are required to have a photo taken at the event to document their presentation, and submit that photo to CUE at the conclusion of their travel.
  • Applications will not be accepted after the attendance of a conference.
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Only one award can be received per semester/term. 

+ - When to Apply

  • Applications should be submitted immediately upon acceptance to present.
  • All application materials should be submitted at least six (6) weeks prior to the conference/event date. 
  • Please note that funding is on a first come, first served basis. 

+ - Award Amounts

Students presenting their work at conferences/events may apply for funds to partially defer costs.
  • up to $1000 for travel within the United States
  • up to $1500 for international travel 

+ - Application Materials

  • One of the following from two additional funding sources (SGA and other source):  Application will not open without one of the following from two additional funding sources.
    • Documentation of pending funding requests.
    • Documentation of funding awards.
    • Documentation of funding denials.
  • Presentation Proposal: Submit a 450-500 word proposal containing presentation abstract and how it contributes to your academic career.
  • Faculty mentor letter of reference: Once your application is completed, your faculty mentor will receive an email prompting them to upload a letter of reference to complete your application. Applications will not be complete until the letter of reference is received by CUE. We suggest you promptly tell your faculty mentor once your application has been submitted.
  • Estimated Costs: Provide documentation detailing ALL costs of the conference. For example, documentation includes detailed registration fees, airline/train ticket estimate or confirmation (must include points of travel, dates, and time), hotel reservation estimates (must include dates and daily rates), estimated ground transportation. 
  • Provide proof of presentation's acceptance by conference or event organization.
