Suzanne Lysak’s broadcast journalism career spanned more than 20 years.  She held various positions in TV newsrooms around the country, including reporter, anchor, producer, executive producer and news director. 

In 2017, Lysak was named to Crain’s NewsPro annual national list of Notable Journalism Educators.  She is a Fulbright Specialist 2018-2021 and has worked as a news management consultant in emerging democracies. 

Lysak was an associate professor of broadcast journalism at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications from 2009-2019.  At Syracuse, she received the Meredith Teaching Recognition Award.   She also previously taught at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. and as an adjunct at the University of Southern California.

In 2007, Lysak won two Los Angeles area Emmy Awards as a KCBS-TV morning news senior producer, coordinating coverage of wildfires.  Earlier in her career, she won an American Women in Radio & Television national award for her reporting of a series titled “Private Battles:  Women in the Military.”

Lysak is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).  Her research interests include how journalists use social media, and how constantly-evolving technology effects the delivery and impact of journalism.
