Holiday pay for employees with a regular schedule of less than 40 hours per week will be prorated based on their regular work schedule as follows:

  • Employees with a regular schedule of 30 or more hours but less than 40 hours per week will be paid six (6) hours of holiday pay for all of the holidays listed
  • Employees with a regular schedule of 20 or more hours but less than 30 hours per week will be paid four (4) hours of holiday pay for all of the holidays listed above.

Temporary employees, student employees and employees scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for holiday pay.

The following applies to all scheduled holidays (except for the Extended Independence Day Holidays): staff employees who are either required or requested by the University to work on a scheduled holiday will be paid regular wages for all hours worked, plus any holiday pay for which they are eligible. Should a holiday occur on a staff employee's regular day off, that day off will be paid as a holiday.

Exclusively for the Extended Independence Day Holidays (Thursday, July 2, 2020, and Monday, July 6, 2020), the following applies: staff employees who are either required or requested by the University to work on the Extended Independence Day Holidays have two options: (1) work on the extended holiday(s) and receive regular wages for all hours worked, plus any holiday pay for which they are eligible; OR (2) defer the extended holiday(s) to another selected day as approved by the department head. The election must be submitted to Payroll by June 29, 2020. The deferred holiday period is April 1 –December 31, 2020. An employee who uses the deferred holiday and terminates employment prior to July 2, 2020, will have the pre-paid deferred holiday deducted from their final vacation payout.

The following applies to all scheduled holidays: staff employees who are either required or requested by the University to work on a scheduled holiday will be paid regular wages for all hours worked, plus any holiday pay for which they are eligible. Should a holiday occur on a staff employee's regular day off, that day off will be paid as a holiday.

In the event that an employee is absent from work unexpectedly on the last scheduled workday before and/or the first scheduled workday after a holiday, the employee’s supervisor will, in consultation with Human Resources, determine if supporting documentation is necessary in order for the employee to receive holiday pay. An employee who is unexpectedly absent from work on the day before and/or on the day after a holiday is not automatically ineligible for holiday pay.
