Audition Process

» Audition Process

After submitting the University Application, Creative Supplement, and Pre-Screening Audition Video, select applicants will be invited to a virtual callback session, which consists of an interview and Q&A. Please review the specific audition video requirements for your specific instrument in the sections below.

Audition Video Requirements

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the standard pre-screening video will take the place of an in-person audition. You will be prompted to upload the video on your Application Status page after completing the Creative Supplement.

All applicants must audition on their primary instrument (guitar, percussion, piano, strings, vocal, or woodwinds & brass). Applicants to the BA in Music, BM in Composition and BM (Pre-Music Education Certification) must submit additional materials.

Specific video audition requirements for your chosen instrument or voice are found below.

Virtual Callback Requirements and Dates

If you are selected for a virtual callback session you will be prompted through your Application Status Page to submit a letter of recommendation from your most recent music instructor or a professional with whom you studied.

The virtual callback includes an interview with the specific music program director. You may be asked to play scales, sight read, or play an excerpt from the audition repertoire. Please wear appropriate attire, such as what you would wear to perform in a jury or a recital.
