» Group Tours of Chapman University

We’re excited to introduce Chapman to you and groups who you are interested in bringing to campus. This page provides helpful information and reminders for you as you plan your visit. If you are ready to request a group tour, visit our Request a Group Tour Reservation page.

Group Tour Guidelines

As you consider touring Chapman, please keep in mind:

  • Group tours are for groups of 10 or more
  • Group tours are open to K-12th graders or community college student groups.
  • Group tours are available Monday-Friday at 9 a.m. They are suspended during Orientation Week in August, the months of March and April, and on major holidays.
  • There must be at least 1 chaperone for every 10 students (10:1 or less ratio).
  • The visit consists of a one-hour tour of our Orange campus. Group tours do not visit Residence Life (campus housing) or Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. Groups interested in visiting Dodge College should request a visit via the Dodge College Tour Request Form.
  • The demand for group tours far exceeds availability and reservations are limited.
  • All group tour requesters are required to agree to Chapman’s Group Tour Contract. You can learn more about the contract below.

Group Tour Contract

If you request a group tour, you must also agree to treat campus property, our residential neighbors, and members of the Chapman community with the same respect and dignity that our Chapman community will extend to them. Chaperones are responsible for ensuring students uphold these values during their time on campus; excessive talking, and any actions or language that is not appropriate for a campus tour should be addressed by the chaperone. Chapman University reserves the right to end the tour at any time or deny future visit requests based on past behavior.

In addition, we expect group visitors to adhere to the following:

  • Plan to arrive 20-25 minutes before your group tour time.
  • Groups that arrive 20 or more minutes late will not be able to be accommodated.
  • The group is responsible for transportation to and from campus.
  • The group must have a primary school official accompanying the group.
  • If you need to cancel your group tour, please do so at least two business days before the visit.

Arrival Instructions

  • If you are arriving by bus, please follow our directions for bus drivers.
  • If you are arriving in vans/cars, we will email you a parking pass 1 week prior to your scheduled group visit. Please print the parking pass and follow the instructions below.
    • We recommend you park in the Lastinger Parking Structure (driving directions to Lastinger), with access via Walnut Avenue.
    • You must display the admission parking pass and park in an "Admissions Guest" or "Visitor" stall to avoid a citation.
    • Additional visitor parking is available in the Cypress Parking Lot (driving directions to Cypress). You must display the admission parking pass and park in a "Visitor" stall to avoid a citation.

How long are group tours?

Group tours are 1-hour in length. Your tour guide will lead your group through campus and provide a brief overview of Chapman University.

Can we see the dorms on the tours?

You will not be able to see the inside of a dorm room during your visit. However, your tour guide can talk about Residence Life and what it is like to live on campus. Pictures of various dorm rooms are displayed on our website and students have also posted YouTube videos of their dorm rooms.

Will I get to see Dodge College?

No, Dodge College is not included on our group tour route. If your group is interested in film or media arts, please submit a request for a Dodge College Group Tour.

Where can we eat lunch?

Depending on the size of your group and when you are visiting, we may or may not be able to accommodate your group in our dining commons. Groups looking to eat in the dining commons as a part of their group tour should contact Sodexo Dining Services via Bernard West at bernard.west@sodexo.com. Students/groups are also welcome to bring sack lunches or purchase food at our on-campus eateries.

Depending on the size of your group, you may also enjoy eating in Old Towne Orange (a short walk from campus). Old Towne is a common hangout for Chapman students. You can learn more in this blog post from one of our tour guides.

Are there any group tour options outside the 9 - 10 a.m. window?

We do not generally offer group tours outside this window. If this time will not work for your group, you can email us at grouptours@chapman.edu to see if we can accommodate you at a different time.

All group tour opportunities are full. What can I do to schedule a visit?

You can email us at grouptours@chapman.edu to see if we can accommodate you. But please kind in mind, the demand for group tours is greater than our availability to accommodate them.

Why are group tours not available during March and April?

During March and April our office receives our highest volume of prospective student tour visitors while, at the same time, offering visit opportunities for our admitted students and families. With the influx of campus visitors, and limited resources, we are unable to accommodate group tours during this period.
