» Resources for LGBTQIA+ Students

Chapman University celebrates all aspects of a student’s unique identity, including their sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.

The college application process can be a time filled with emotions of excitement, fear, and uncertainty for any student, and we understand these feelings might be heightened for LGBTQIA students.

On this page, you can learn more about how we support those students academically, socially and through the application process.

LGBTQIA marchMinor in Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Queer Studies Program

This minor in provides students of almost any major the means to explore the issues surrounding this academic discipline in its scientific, socio-cultural, political and artistic contexts.

The minor can also serve students preparing for careers in law, public policy, health and social services, the arts, entertainment or the ministry. You can learn more on our Wilkinson College website.

"My 'Film, Gender & Sexuality' class discussions had always left me with such a greater awareness. As an Asian American non-binary person, what I appreciated most was how intersectional the curriculum was."

LGBTQIA+ Student Organizations

Students at Chapman are encouraged to celebrate their diversity and interests through involvement with student organizations and co-curricular programs. A few of the student organizations at Chapman focused on the LGBTQIA community include:

  • Breaking Ground provides students with opportunities to learn more about the relevance and value of using inclusive language, experiences of LGBTQIA communities, supporting undocumented students, and developing skills for bystander intervention as an ally
  • Queer-Straight Alliance is a place of trans and queer resistance and solidarity! We provide a safe and welcoming space for anyone who identifies with the LGBTQQIAP+ community
  • Queer and Trans People of Color Collective serves to create a radical space of support for students who are queer and/or transgender and are non-white, of mixed heritage, and/or are part of a racialized or marginalized group based on minority status

As a queer student at Chapman, I have access to many different opportunities—starting from my first days here! The LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group during orientation connected me to so many incredible faculty, staff, and peers. These people have been my support system throughout my time on campus, and I know the relationships will last a lifetime!
