WILKINSON COLLEGE > Languages > Academic Programs > Japanese Studies Minor Wilkinson College of Letters & Sciences

**Recommended Guideline Only**

The Department of Languages does not have a standing minor in Japanese Studies.  However, students are allowed to petition the Academic Council for a personalized minor.  Students should consult with the Japanese program advisor for approval of the course selection.  Students should also pay attention to which upper division course is offered each semester, since only one upper division course in Japanese is offered per semester.

Recommended Minimum Requirements: 18 credits, 15 of which should be upper division

Students are encouraged to spend at least one semester in Japan.

Prerequisites: Japanese 101 and 102 or equivalent

Students should complete 18 units from the following list:

  • JPN 201 Intermediate Japanese
  • JPN 301 Advanced Japanese Reading and Writing
  • JPN 343 Advanced Grammar and Composition
  • JPN 345 Advanced Conversation
  • JPN 347 Business Japanese
  • JPN 478 Japanese Civilization
  • JPN 499 Independent Study

** Only senior students can take JPN 478 and JPN 499

* The course of study for the personalized minor must be submitted to the Academic Council for its approval preferably during the freshman or sophomore year.*

Please consider taking advantage of Chapman’s Study Abroad to earn credit for your personalized minor from Kansai Gaidai University.  Many courses offered at Kansai Gaidai University can count for credit as both lower and upper division equivalents.
