Javiera Cartagena '08
A native of Chile, Javiera Cartagena graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish and a minor Legal Studies. She participated in study programs at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and at the Institute for Central American Development Studies in Costa Rica. "The faculty at Chapman truly made an impact in developing my passion for politics and languages through multidisciplinary and multicultural perspectives." Javiera was the recipient of both the "Outstanding Spanish Major" and the "Political Science Scholar-Citizen Award." She was also awarded the Cheverton Trophy and was one of the speakers at the 2008 Commencement Ceremony. Javiera plans to attend graduate school and seek a degree in Public and Foreign Service. |

Zucely Monterroso '08
Zucely Monterroso recently graduated Chapman University class of 2008 with a major in Spanish as well as a minor in History. During her four years at Chapman she was involved in Spanish Club, Student California Teachers Association (SCTA), Cross Country, and Track. In the Fall of 2006 she had the opportunity to study abroad in Granada, Spain. "Studying abroad opened my mind to a world outside of Orange County. It made me appreciate Spanish culture and it also increased my love for the language." Zucely was also the recipient for the "Outstanding Spanish Major" in 2008. She plans to pursue a career in teaching and hopes to one day become a Spanish teacher. |
