Spencer Schwerdfeger

Spencer Schwerdfeger"It is the best of both worlds because you have the personal feel of a small  school with the academic opportunities that accompany a larger institution," says Spencer Schwerdfeger ('10) about Chapman's History Department.

An active member of Phi Alpha Theta, the History Honors Society, after graduation Spencer plans to spend a year abroad teaching English and then attend graduate school. He credits his history professors with convincing him that he wanted to become a history professor and writer.

Spencer had this to say about his experiences as a history major:

"Chapman's history department is small, but very personalized. The small classes and personal attention that the professors provide are essential in developing the skills that are important for the field of history, and really any career. The personal growth that I have undergone in two years as a student is phenomenal. I attribute most of this growth to the Professors and classes have taken; the professors at Chapman really force you to think critically and develop your skills as a historian."
