Brittany Columbus

Brittany Columbus"Ive spent four years going to classes that I love; very few majors can say that!," says Brittany Columbus ('09), winner of the Tenaya Hills Outstanding Senior Thesis Project Award 2008, and third place winner in the Leatherby Libraries Undergraduate Research Awards 2007.

Brittany is a double-major in History and French, with a minor Political Science (all under Wilkinson College). Building on her experience in her junior year studying in France, she has a scholarship to study legal French in France after graduation. She then plans to go to law school to study International Law.

Brittany had this to say about her experiences as a history major at Chapman:

"Choosing to be a history major is by far the best decision I've made here at Chapman because I have absolutely loved each history course I've taken. I can say with complete conviction that the history faculty is the best at Chapman! each professor has such a unique teaching style; each incredibly involved and interesting. Our faculty is so passionate about history and each brings a unique field of study to the department. In my experience, the courses are so well researched and detailed, which was really comforting because I know that my professors put the same effort into a course that they expect of me. Honestly, registration is so difficult because there are so many courses that you want to take!."

"The skills involved in being a history major are invaluable! As graduation nears, I am confident that I have the skills to pursue any direction. My professors have been attentive and improved by writing and critical thinking in so many ways. I go to professor's office hours several times a week, where my professors give me feedback and direction for any questions I have."

"I have so many happy moments as a history major. I was really excited when I received my primary sources from Ireland for my senior thesis project. When I first opened the package, which included an Irish feminist publication from 1908, I felt so official. I felt like a real scholar at that point."
