Jan OsbornInstructor of Education and English; 1997 B.A., Spring Arbor College; M.A., University of Michigan; Ph.D., University of California, Riverside Jan has been a faculty member since 1997 and has a MA from the University of Michigan. She teaches classes in composition, linguistics, and literacy studies. Her areas of specialization are critical theory, with a focus on "reading the word and the world," and aesthetic education. She annually attends The Lincoln Center Institute on Aesthetic Education and values the meaning-making power of the arts. She reflects upon Ezra Pound's understanding of reading for power: "Properly, we should read for power. The book should be a ball of light in one's hand." She is currently working on a research project involving student perception of writing. |
