Message From the Dean

Dr. Roberta Lessor

Roberta Lessor I am proud to welcome you to the new Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the heart of liberal arts education at Chapman University.

Our college, in response to the outstanding growth of the university, is newly reorganized beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year.  Wilkinson College was established in 1991 as Wilkinson College of Letters and Sciences.  This year, as Wilkinson College refocuses, it will be devoted to programs and majors in the humanities and social sciences:  English, Languages, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Communication Studies, History, Political Science and Sociology.  The College is also the academic home of the Albert Schweitzer Institute, and of the Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education, two distinguished centers that exemplify Chapman University’s historic dedication to studying and applying ethics and ethical values.

Wilkinson College of Humanities and Social Sciences remains the largest college at Chapman University.  Our distinguished faculty is composed of active scholars actively publishing books and articles in their respective fields.  They are also dedicated teachers, and Wilkinson College students have a unique opportunity to work with these gifted mentors both in and out of the classroom.

A Wilkinson College education provides learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom, preparing students to be lifelong learners with the skills critical for success in a rapidly changing world: critical thinking, intercultural competence, intellectual flexibility, effective communication, theoretical grounding, pre-professional education, practical experience, and civic engagement.

In choosing a Wilkinson College major, minor, or graduate program, you become part of a community dedicated to both doing well and doing good. You will learn from faculty, staff, and other students, developing intellectually, professionally, and personally to become a global citizen committed to creating a more ethical, just world.
