Course Name: Central American Responses to Global Realities
Dates: Interterm 2008 -- Travel Dates January 3-26
Included: roundtrip airfare from LAX, international health insurance, Spanish language lessons, homestays and housing, all local transportations and most meals.
Not included: Orange campus housing, LAX airport pick up and drop off, passport fees, immunizations, spending money.
Course overview: This course will immerse students in Costa Rican daily life and culture, and introduce a variety of ways in which Costa Rica is addressing of climate change, globalization, and economic liberalization. Students will have an opportunity to see first hand how communities and non-governmental organizations are addressing these issues.
This is possible through our association with the Institute for Central American Studies (ICADS), which organizes the indivdiualized language courses, and provides for distinguished guest lecturers and knowledgeable expedition guides. Each student will also have a home-stay with a Costa Rican family where they will learn about Costa Rican daily life and have a chance to practice their Spanish.
