All residence hall rooms and University apartments (except Glassell/Wellsfry Apartments and University Houses) receive basic cable service. If you experience problems with your cable service, contact the Telecommunitcations department. Students who would like to purchase premium channels may do so by contacting Time Warner. Residents who live in the University Houses and Glassell or Wellsfry Apartments should contact Time Warner to establish cable service. CHEVERTON COMMONS (Henley Basement) Cheverton Commons, located in the Henley Basement, is available to all residents. This community center consists of Doy’s Place snack shop, music practice rooms with digital keyboards, a media room with a large screen TV, VCR, cable and DVD, John Biggs Conference Room, billiards, foosball and ping pong. Students may also use the laundry facilities and fitness room, and enjoy the sounds coming from the Chapman Radio studio. For questions about the Henley Basement, or to reserve a meeting room, please call the Henley Hall Office at (714) 628-2715. Access to the high speed Internet service is available in all campus residence halls and apartments through Ethernet connections in the rooms. Additionally, wireless Internet is accessible throughout the campus. Students are also welcome to use one of our public access computers located in Henley Hall in the 1st floor study room and in the Sandhu Residence Center on the 2nd floor (straight across from the elevator). If you need any assistance, contact the Chapman Service Desk. The first floor of the Davis Community Center houses a lounge area for students to use, a large laundry room with card operated washers and dryers, as well as one of our package rooms. In addition, the Office of Housing & Residence Life is located on the second floor. All students who live in the residence halls are required to have a meal plan, which is included in the cost of room and board (students living in apartments are not required to have a meal plan). There are several meal plan options for the number of meals students can eat each week in the Randall Dining Commons (located in Sandhu Residence and Conference Center), as well as the amount of Panther Bucks that can be used at all the campus retail restaurants. Students will provide their ID card in order to be admitted into Randall Dining Commons or to access their Panther Bucks. Apartment residents and commuter students often choose to purchase a smaller meal plan as well. Please review our Dining Information for details on all of the meal plan options. ENERGY CONSERVATION/SUSTAINABILITY As a Certified Green Department, the Office of Housing and Residence Life is dedicated to upholding Chapman's commitment to energy conservation and environmental sustainability. Here are a few tips to help us support this important mission:
Laundry machines, operated by WASH Laundry, are available to all residential students. Laundry rooms are located in all residence halls, the Harris Apartments, and on the first floor of the Davis Community Center. Please follow the instructions for using the machines that are posted in the laundry rooms. Payment for washing machine and dryer use is made using the funds on your CU Services Account, which you will access using your student ID card (no quarters are needed). You can add money to your account by using a Value Transfer Station in the Davis Community Center or by visiting the Cashier's Office in the Bhathal Student Services Center. Chapman University and its vendors are not responsible for clothing damage due to misuse or overloading. Refer to garment tags for special washing and drying instructions. If you experience problems using one of the machines, please contact us. The university does not assume responsibility for any claims for damage sustained by resident of others in their room as a result of their acts or omissions relating to changes or modifications of bunk beds, book shelves, lofts, partitions or other structures. The university is not liable for any personal property that may be lost, stolen, or damaged. Residents are strongly encouraged to purchase student insurance or to be covered through their parents' homeowner's insurance. If you are interested in the Student Personal Property Plan, please contact National Student Services Inc. If you are locked out of your room/apartment/house during normal business hours, you can contact your hall office or the Office of Housing & Residence Life in the Davis Community Center. After business hours, please visit your hall office for assistance. During late night or weekend hours, call Public Safety. Note: Each student receives one free lockout per year. Residents are charged a $5.00 fine for each subsequent lockout. We encourage you to use the residence hall lounges for studying, relaxing, talking with friends, entertaining guests, and watching TV. Most residence halls contain lounge areas with comfortable furniture and TVs. In addition to student lounges, there are study rooms located in North Morlan (3rd floor), Glass Hall (2nd floor), Sandhu (2nd, 3rd, 4th floors), as well as every floor in Pralle-Sodaro Hall and Henley Hall. Removal of the lounge furniture is strictly prohibited; removal of lounge furniture will result in a fine. Every student living on campus will receive a campus mailbox number. With over 2000 students living on campus, it is important that mail is carefully addressed with the following format in order to avoid a delay in delivery or return to sender. If you live in the Davis Apartments: Your Legal Name 625 North Grand, Apt # Orange, CA 92867 Student mailboxes are located across the residential community, in Morlan Hall, Henley Basement, Sandhu Basement and Davis Quad. Students will receive their mailbox assignment with their housing information in the summer. Please be aware that you will be sharing a box with at least one other student. Therefore residents should not remove any mail that is not addressed to them from their mailbox. Residents will not share a mailbox with their roommate. If you did not receive a mailbox assignment, cannot remember it, or have lost your mailbox key, please contact us. Student Packages If you live in the Davis Apartments, your mail is processed directly by the U.S. Postal Service and your package will be delivered directly to your door A parking permit is required for any vehicles parking on campus. Please review Parking Services information for details on specific parking permit costs and designated parking areas. Failure to register your vehicle could result in a parking citation and/or towing your vehicle. Our residential rooms come equipped with a phone line for students to use. Please bring your own phone to plug into the phone jack. If you have any questions regarding the phone service, please contact Telecommunications. Residents who live in University Houses and Glassell or Wellsfry Apartments should contact the local phone company to establish phone service. POSTING OF FLYERS Any material to be posted on campus, including in the residential communities, must first meet the standards of the posting policy listed in the Student Conduct Code. Please use blue painter’s tape or reusable adhesive putty to post flyers and posters. Any items taped to glass windows, painted surfaces, brick or wooden walls will be removed and the posting party (club/organization/person) may be held responsible for removal fees and charges necessary for cleaning and repairs.
