Getting Involved

The Residence Life program depends on your involvement and support. Residence Life programs offer students an opportunity to actively participate in decision making, planning and implementing events. This is your program and you have the right and responsibility to help make it what you want it to be. To become involved in any of the following groups or activities, please see your RA or RD and look for flyers and banners publicizing meetings and events.

Emerging Leaders

What is it? Emerging leaders is a leadership development course that assists in your growth as a student leader at Chapman University.  It is geared towards assisting new students to find their way into leadership opportunities at Chapman!  The program is a semester long program that meets once a week to cover various leadership topics.

Why should I get involved? Completing this program will leave you more prepared for taking on leadership positions at Chapman.  You will learn about your own leadership style, teamwork, communication, and more, all making you a better candidate for leadership positions in student organizations, Associated Students, Student LEAD, and Residence Life... as well as for the real world after graduation!

How can I get involved? E-mail Andy Schuster at aschuste@chapman.edu or  Dana Tufano at tufano@chapman.edu.

Residence Hall Association (RHA)

What is it? The Residence Hall Association is a student organization that provides programming for all residents, service to the community as well as advocates for the needs of resident students. Each year RHA organizes Safe Trick or Treat and other service programs

Why should I get involved? RHA helps to develop program planning skills, provides leadership opportunities as well as paid elected positions within the organizations.  RHA is a great way to become a leader within an organization in your first year!

Resident Advisor (RA) Internship

What is it? RA Internship is an opportunity for students to shadow a Resident Advisor in their job responsibilities in order to get a stronger sense of whether they are interested in applying for the Resident Advisor position.  RA Internship takes place in the month of February.

Why should I get involved? RA Internship is a fun way for students to plan a program, create a   bulletin board, and connect with other students interested in the RA position.  The RA Internship also allows students to learn about the responsibilities associated with being a Resident Advisor before deciding to apply for the position.

How can I get involved? E-mail Dana Tufano at tufano@chapman.edu; Fill out RA Internship Application

Intramurals

Students can get involved in a wide variety of sporting events and competitions (from billiards to touch football). You can get involved by helping your living community organize intramural teams and encouraging your neighbors to participate. The Intramurals extension is ext. 6769.

Student Activities

The Student LEAD Office (Student Leadership, Experiences, Activities and Development) has a variety of programs and clubs which will assist you with getting involved and connected into the Chapman Community. Contact 714-997-6761 or ext. 6761 from a campus phone for more info.

Hall Office Assistants

What is it? Each residence hall has a hall office that is staffed by students who have Federal work-study.  Students are paid for working in the hall offices and are scheduled based on individual academic schedules.

Why should I get involved? In addition to being paid, the Office Assistants (OAs) are able to connect with other OAs as well the RAs and residents of the building.  It is also a great way to learn about Residence Life.

How can I get involved? Check with the student employment website for individual hall openings at http://studemp.chapman.edu/oncampus/.   You do not have to live in a particular hall in order to work there. Email: reslife@chapman.edu if you have any further questions.

Residence Peer Conduct Board (RPCB)

What is it? Resident Peer Conduct Board is a group of resident students, led by a student coordinator and staff advisor, who hear conduct cases, decide if violations of the conduct code have occurred, and decide on appropriate sanctions.

Why should I get involved? RPCB is a once a week commitment that allows students to   connect with other students in a small setting.   RPCB is an easy way for students to get       acquainted with the Student Conduct Process and help other students be accountable for their decisions and actions.

How can I get involved? E-mail housing at reslife@chapman.edu.

Safe Space

What is it? Safe Space is a training program to develop allies to assist and advocate for the     Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) students on-campus.
