FAQs

These Frequently Asked Questions are geared towards undergraduate students. If you are a graduate student looking for informaiton on housing, please visit our Graduate, Law and Family Housing Page.

morlanbikerHow do I apply for housing at Chapman University?
To apply for housing, submit an online housing application. In order to access the online application, you must have your Chapman University username and password. The username should be entered in email address format with the "@chapman.edu" appearing after your username.  

Which residence hall is best for me?
To find the Residence Hall that is best fitted to your needs go to the Halls Page and read through the descriptions that are listed for each Hall, or call Residence Life for more information at 714.997.6603.

What should I do to get along better my roommate?
Read over our Roommate Advice page, if you need more specific information; speak to your resident advisor.

What do I do when there is something broken, flooded, clogged in my room?
All Facilities Work Requests must be completed online. No work requests can be submitted in hard copy form or over the phone. To fill a Work Request out online see Maintenance.

Can I bring a pet to live in the residence halls?
Fish are the only pets that are allowed. The tank may be no larger than 10 gallons.

Can I have a refrigerator, microwave or any other appliances?
Refrigerators must be 4 cubic feet or less. Microwaves and other appliances such as toasters and hotplates are not allowed. However, students can rent a Microfridge which is a small microwave that sits on top of a small refrigerator. These can be ordered by calling 1-888-929-0806. More detailed information regarding the Microfridge units are included in the Housing Assignment Packets that are sent out annually.

Where are the laundry facilities? How much does it cost?
Laundry facilities are located in each residence hall and on the first floor of the Davis Community Center. It costs $1 to wash and 75¢ for 45 minutes of drying time. In order to operate the machines, you need a CardMate laundry card which can be purchased from a CoinMach machine (located on the 1st floor of the Davis Community Center, in the Cheverton Commons of Henley Hall and on the fourth floor laundry room of Glass Hall. The cost is $5; $3 is a deposit and $2 dollars will be available on your card. Credit may be added to the card with cash and debit/credit cards. The coinmach machines in the Davis Community Center and the Henley Basement only accept debit/credit card.  

What is RPCB?
It is the Resident Peer Conduct Board.

I am locked out what do I do?
The student should go to the hall office first. If no one is there, you may go to the central office of Residence Life. If it is after work hours, call the Department of Public Safety at 714.997.6763. The first lock-out is free, however every lockout thereafter a fee of $5 will be charged.

I am sick where do I go?
The Wellness Center is located at the corner of Sycamore and Glassell. After Hours, students may go to Sunrise Medical at 867 S. Tustin in Orange, 771-1420, or Sunrise MultiSpeciality, 2492 Walnut in Tustin, 669-1997. These clinics are open 8am to 10pm and do not require appointments. The Sunrise clinics accept all types of Medical Insurance, including Chapman's medical coverage.

What are the different types of meal plans?
The 19 meal plan provides 19 meals a week within the dining hall and $50 in Panther bucks.
The 14 meal plan provides 14 meals a week within the dining hall and $100 in Panther bucks.
The 12 meal plan provides 12 meals a week within the dining hall and $150 in Panther bucks.
The 10 meal plan provides 10 meals a week within the dining hall and $200 in Panther bucks.

What are Panther bucks?
Panther Bucks are monies that can be used to purchase food at the Jazzman's Cafe, Subversions, Salsa Rico, Sky Ranch Grill, and Pantera's. 

Can I change my meal plan?
Yes. If you would like to change your meal plan prior to the start of the semester, you can contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 714.997.6603 to change your meal plan. However, if the semester has begun, you will need to contact the Business Office at 714.997.6617. All changes must be made within the first two weeks of the semester.

What are some places to eat on campus?
Jazzman's Cafe and Subversions are located in Beckman, The Sky Ranch Grill, Salsa Rico, Pantera's, and the Betty Hutton Williams Collonade Dining Room is located in Argyros Forum.

What is the cost of parking?
A $210 parking permit is needed for each car that is parked on campus.

What kinds of decorations are allowed?
Candles of any kind are not allowed. Nails, tacks, and tape cannot be used to hang things upon the wall. For more information on what is allowed in the residence halls, please visit our What Should I Bring? page.  

Can I raise a bed with cinderblocks?
Due to safety reasons, beds are not allowed to be lofted or lifted by cinder blocks or wood of any kind.

Can I change rooms? What is the Process?
Students can request an assignment change by completing an online request.  After we have received your request, you will receive further instruction on how to successfully complete an assignment change. Please note that Assignment Change Requests should only be submitted AFTER the start of the semester and are accommodated on a available space basis only.

I need to move off campus. What is the proper procedure?
Students must obtain a License Release Request. This form is located in the Office of Residence Life. All directions must be completed and, if needed, a written documentation must also be submitted. After we have received your request, the Assistant Director in charge of Housing Assignments will contact you.

What is my address on campus?

Where do I pick up a package that doesn't fit in my mailbox?
You will receive an email to your Chapman University email account when a package has been received by University Services. You must bring your Chapman Student ID and a printout of your notification email to the Davis Package Room to receive the package. Hours will be posted on the door of the package room at the start of each semester. Hours may vary during Holiday periods.

Are the residence halls co-ed?
Yes the residence halls have male and female rooms that are right next to each other, however no room may have both sexes living in it.

Is Alcohol and smoking allowed?
Smoking is allowed 15 feet away from any building. Alcohol is only allowed in the rooms of students who are 21 years of age.
